The tramp-harp
The tub-a-ma-phone
Take 4 kilometres of baling twine collected from local dairy farms in NSW, Australia. Weave, tie and wind it in space, add light and sounds plucked from the string itself and... who knows what kind of empire we could create?
Stringdom is the brainchild of Bryony Anderson from One Off Makery, an arts entity dedicated to creating innovative visual experiences from frugal resources. Originally a commission from the Sydney Opera House, Stringdom has grown to a kids festival bonanza! I collaborated on Stringdom during the Glasshouse (Port Macquarie) Neon Summer Festival in January 2018, exploring the sound possibilities from Baling Twine.
Handmade instruments included the Tramp Harp (bass harp made from a recycled huge trampoline frame) and the 'Tub-a-ma-phone' (hammered dulcimer strung up to a bathtub!). Musical examples and videos coming sooon!
